The challenge of feeding a global population cannot be achieved without major improvements in both water and nutrient efficiency. Irrigated agriculture is a major user of freshwater resources and contributes significantly to food production. Simultaneous application of water and nutrients requires careful management, but offers significant potential for improved efficiency.
